Enfield GC was the ideal setting for the Middlesex Eamonn Kneafsey Championship, the U26, U21, and U18s Championship. Enfield has long been associated with junior golf in the County so it was only right that we brought the Championship to the club. Enfield GC was very accommodating and welcomed the Middlesex juniors for their 36-hole championship on Sunday the 22nd of August.
The help offered by Enfield was first class. Captain and Vice-Captain started all our players off in the morning and a few members offered their time to ball spot on the tricky 13th hole. Joe and all the catering staff looked after everyone very well. We want to sincerely thank Enfield GC for hosting the championship as they ensured its success.
Defending Champion, Will Orridge, was full of confidence on his home course and although he had a shaky start to his defence he fired seven birdies in his last 12 holes in round one to earn a commanding lead. From there, it was a matter of holding off his challengers at arm's length which he was able to do with a second-round 75 to finish on 143 and win both the U21 and U26 Championships for the second year running. Another Enfield protege, Alex John finished second and four shots behind with a 147.
Alex John (72 - 75) and Saskia Owen (73 - 76) won the Boys' and Girls' U18 Championships and with it the right to represent Middlesex at the County Champion of Champions events at Woodhall Spa next month. Alfie Reynolds and Lucy Labdon finished runner up respectively. Additionally, Alex and Saskia both won the Telegraph Justin Rose qualifier in round one which means that their scores will be added to the national leader board and they will be in with a chance to play the national finals at Walton Heath GC. A very successful day for two of our best junior golfers.
It was also a day to remember for Enfield Junior Captian Issy Brunskill who shot her best round ever in round two with a nett 60 and winning the U18, U21, and U26 Nett prize in the process.
